My First Tutorial! - How To Make A LOT Of Rocks In Bryce!

Well it took me a LONG time to get to this point but I finally created my first tutorial! It's about how to create a lot of rocks in Bryce!

Of course it took me a long time to do this tutorial but I finally got it done.

How did I think of this?

Well Bryce is a really great program for making 3D scenes and scenery and I have made a lot of renders but it always bothered me when I was making rocks that I would have to copy and paste the rocks over and over again if I wanted a lot of rocks in my scenes. And then the idea just came to me and I tested it out first and it worked!

Here is the link to my tutorial - the tutorial is in .pdf format and you should be able to download it quite easily!

Rose #7

Here is my 3D object of Rose model #7! These are rose objects that I made in the 3D program Plant Studio and I imported them into my Bryce 3D program!.

PlantStudio is a program that as it's name says creates all different sorts of plants and flowers and in this case - even roses. It is available as a free download and all you have to do is "google" for it.

It's a very good program for creating 3D Plant objects but I have to warn you that this program has a lot of options you can use to edit your plants and if you're anything like me you just might spend hours playing around with this program!

So like I said - I created the rose objects in plant studio and then I imported them into Bryce.

I'm still working / deciding on a way to offer my objects as a free download (that is if anyone is interested in them - LOL!) Since I'm still working on that I'll let you know when I can get it right and get it done.

Rose 05 Render

Here is a render I made using my Rose06 object!

Of course this was made with Bryce. Most of the other objects that you see here with the exception of the buildings on the sides were objects I created in Bryce. The two side buildings were free downloads that I got off of the internet.

As far as the roses go it looks as though I am getting much better at uv-mapping them.

You can find out more about my rose objects by clicking here.

Rose 01 Render

My current project involves my Rose models!

As you can see from the picture above I have completed Rose #1. The rose object was created using PlantStudio. After I created the rose object in PlantStudio I then saved it as an .obj. The next step was to UV map the rose object which just means that I "fragmented" it so that I could add color / surface / materials to it. I used the UV Mapper program to do this.

Once I added colors to the object, the color / texture map was saved.

Next I imported the rose #1 object into Bryce. Once I uploaded the rose object into Bryce I could then add the texture map that I created for the rose object from the UV Mapper program.

And the final result you see here.

Now as you can see the rose(s) look kind of "light in color but since this is Rose #1 I have had time to learn more about UV mapping. I'm going to go back and re-texture this so that it looks more better.

3D Programs That I Have So Far - Here Is A List

Here is a list of free 3d programs that I have so far!

  • Bryce - I was able to download this as a free download Bryce is a very good rendering program for creating 3D landscapes and art!

  • Daz 3D Studio - this is a program that is similar in respect to the Poser program. It was also available as a free download.

  • Wings3d - this is a program that lets you create 3d objects. Although there are lots of sites online where you can download free 3d objects there may come a time when you will want to create your own 3d objects.

  • Gimp - this is a 2d program that is an open sourced program. It is also available as a free download.

The Dog House

Here is something that I have recently been working on.

I had originally wanted to do this render using the DazStudio program but I found that the doghouse that I made using Wings3d would allow for textures and the doghouse would have just been one solid color.

This render is also darker than usual as I'm trying out working on different kinds of "night" scenes. Looking at the picture now I 'm thinking that some lighting would be good to try.

Of course one of the things that I have learned is to save my original files so that I'll be able to work on them again and again!

A Career In 3D Art? Here's One Person That Has It!

Since I am a member of Renderosity.com I have had a chance to see the works of other 3D artists as well and some of their work is so good!

There is one artist there named Duo (who lives in Italy by the way) who has a website where they list the clients that they have had. This is a very impressive list and it brings hope to my own aspirations of having a 3D career as well!

Some of the work that they have done for clients include CD covers, magazine covers and providing online graphics for their websites.

I also have a Working From Home Blog where I talk about the endless possibilities there are out there for one to be able to work from home and being a 3D Artist is another great example of this.

So if you are a 3D artist or just beginning to get into 3D, please be sure to visit their site. It should provide great inspiration to those who are thinking about having a career in 3D design and it will show you the possibilities that are out there.

Their website also includes some 3D models that you can download and use in Bryce versions 4 - 5.

"Do Not Enter!"

I have always been fascinated by things "gothic" and Bryce is a great program to work on some gothic-looking renders. I have a website called "Everything's Related" which has information and links about things relating to witchcraft and the like. Since I do have an interest in witchcraft, wicca and witches I thought that making some 3d renders would be great!

I made the above picture using Bryce. Even though I didn't think that there were that many objects in the picture it did still take a long time to render. Most of the objects that you see in the picture were made from Bryce except for the tree stumps which were made with a program called "Shapemaker" (I'll post about that program later).

The trees, however, were made in the Bryce program and I think that it makes for a more "spooky" effect if the tree branches are bare. I also like the look of night in these types of renders.

With the Bryce program you can make almost everything that you see in the rendered picture above - except for the tree stumps. You can change how the sky looks, and what colors the sky will be in. You can even add the moon, sun and stars to your render as well. The mausoleum was a 3d object that I was able to download for free from Renderosity.com. The light shining on the mausoleum was also added with the Bryce3d program.

About the hardest thing to do was the "Do Not Enter" sign because I never made a sign before previously. But I did manage to get it accomplished and the text shows through quite clearly.

What is so great about the Bryce program is that even though I have rendered the picture above, I still have the original Bryce file of the picture so that I can work on it some more for things like adding new objects or just general tweaking. Plus I can save the objects in the Bryce library file so that I can use them for other renders.

I can see why so many people enjoy making 3d art!

Editing A Hair Model

I have a 3d hair model that I'm currently "tweaking".

I'm using the hair model on my basic Victoria 3 model that I have adapted to my own look.

Unfortunately the hair that I'm working with is in the model's face and that is what I have been working on.

I'm using the Wings3d program to edit this hair model and so far I have managed to get the areas that were in the model's face removed. There are still some small areas that have to be fixed but for right now I have come to the conclusion that I can paint over these problems when I post-render the picture.

I also had to import the basic Victoria3 model into the same program so that I could see how the hair would look on the model.

I'm still doing some "tweaking" with the hair - like I'm trying to figure out how to add bangs - which I can also do when I post-render the image.

I have even worked on this hair model and then imported the 3d object into Bryce. I was doing that to try and find a good hair texture so that the hair would look more realistic. In Wings3d you can save your 3d object and give it a simple material color - nothing too complicated, just a basic color - and when you import it to Bryce it should import with that material color.

So for right now I'm tweaking the hair model and trying to find a good hair texture to add to the hair object so that the hair looks more realistic.

Wings3d!

I just had a fun 4 HOURS "playing" around with Wings3d which is a 3d modeling program.

I have had it for a while so I don't even remember where I got it from but I do know that it is available as a free download on the Internet.

What was I doing for 4 hours? Actually I was following along with the tutorial for Wings3d. The first tutorial showed how to make a "crude" tooth model. The second tutorial is for a doghouse and that is the one that I am working on now.

The above picture may look like an easy object to you but it took me a long time to even get this far - and I'm not even finished with the tutorial yet!

About the hardest thing to do was to make the doors and windows see through - K had a hard time with that one!

As I'm learning the program things are becoming easier to do even though I have a long ways to go - I'm having fun though!

The final render of the doghouse picture was created in Bryce where I simply imported the doghouse model (as it is so far) into Bryce (which I also saved the object in Bryce so that I don't have to keep importing the same 3d object model over and over again).
